For that much this was an excellent purchase. The receiver installed itself when plugged in and works with Boxee and Media Center just fine with no tweaking.
As mentioned, the included remote tends to make the IR receiver "hang" as if receiving constant IR even when it is not. Removing and installing the receiver resets it but this would make it unacceptable if one had to rely only on the included remote.
Fortunately I'm using a URC remote and it has so far not hung up with this remote. Since this was my intention anyway I'm only knocking off one star. The included remote has an interesting design and feel. The button layout is a little strange compared to most Media Center remotes but this isn't necessarily a hit - just an observation. Overall I'd recommend this kit if what you really need is the IR receiver. Cons: IR receiver tends to hang. Also, it suddenly stopped working one night.

Now I can't even use it to teach a universal remote. Pros: Using my keyboard and mouse to navigate through WMC was a pain. This remote was exactly what I was looking for and it works perfectly. It's even been dropped a few times and is still working fine. Cons: Haven't been able to get it to turn off my tv.
